Daniel Mugisha was born in Paris, France, in 1969 to Burundian parents who were pursuing higher education. His father was a distinguished historian who earned his first university degree at the University of Lovanium (Leopoldville, Congo-Belge) before continuing his studies in France, where he obtained a doctorate from the Sorbonne University. He later served as Professor of Contemporary History at the Sorbonne and as a visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison (USA). His mother also pursued studies in France. Born into this academic environment, Daniel inherited a deep appreciation for learning, research, and the study of history, while his Ugandan and Rwandan ancestry further enriched his East African heritage.

Raised in a Pentecostal lineage, he grew up immersed in the faith of his grandfathers, pioneers of the Pentecostal Church in the Great Lakes Region of Africa. At the age of twelve, in 1981, he gave his life to Christ, becoming the fourth generation of ministers in his family.

Before entering full-time ministry, Daniel devoted approximately twenty years (1989–2011) to public service, primarily within the Army, Navy, and Police. During this period, he developed extensive experience in military leadership, maritime operations, law enforcement, strategic planning, and public administration. He graduated from the Hellenic Naval Academy (B.A., Class of 1995) and later completed advanced studies in Naval War Tactics and Operations at the Greek Naval War School in Salamis, Greece (1996).

His career included responsibilities in maritime security and regional cooperation. He served as Commander of a Police Maritime Unit and later as Project Director for the establishment of the Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) System for Lake Tanganyika, working closely with national institutions and regional experts to strengthen maritime safety in accordance with international standards. He also served as a member of a team of experts appointed by the East African Community (EAC) to develop a regional strategy for addressing piracy in the Indian Ocean. The team prepared a strategic framework and recommendations, based on international maritime law and United Nations conventions—including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)—for submission to the African Union's Peace and Security structures. He also contributed to the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code at the International Port of Bujumbura, strengthening maritime security in accordance with international standards.

His public service took him across Europe and the United States, exposing him to diverse cultures, institutions, and approaches to leadership. Yet amid the political and ethnic turmoil of the Great Lakes Region, he experienced persecution that forced him into exile between 2000 and 2005.

In time, he came to understand that these struggles were not merely political but also spiritual. Through prayer and biblical reflection, he became convinced that many visible conflicts have unseen spiritual dimensions. This conviction became one of the central themes developed throughout the Rebuild My House series.

Over the years, he endured assassination attempts, imprisonment, the loss of personal possessions, prolonged separation from his children, and the tragic death of his first wife. Throughout these trials, he found strength in Scripture, prayer, and fasting, drawing particular encouragement from passages such as Ephesians 6:12, Proverbs 24:16, and Psalm 37:24. These experiences profoundly shaped both his ministry and his writings.

During an extended season of prayer and fasting on the WTM Prayer Mountain in Uganda (2002–2003), Daniel sensed a divine call to write a series of books inspired by the prophet Haggai and centered on rebuilding God's spiritual house. During this period, he served at Kampala Pentecostal Church under Senior Pastor Gary Skinner, where he received important ministry formation. In 2003, he pursued theological studies in Nairobi, Kenya, and was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel (Reverend). He later continued his ministerial training through the International School of Ministry (ISM) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Rather than pursuing a public platform, Daniel has devoted much of his ministry to quiet missionary work in remote and difficult regions. Under the umbrella of The Word of Prophecy Ministry (Tanzania) and HigherLife Church (Uganda), he has ministered in areas where open evangelism is often difficult and, at times, dangerous. His ministry has included preaching in predominantly Islamic communities and serving churches facing significant challenges, often accompanied by testimonies of deliverance, healing, and spiritual renewal.

In 2013–2014, during Zambia's Jubilee celebrations, he was invited by Bishop Billy Mfula, Founder of Jesus Anointed Ministries (JAM), to teach on national television. That experience deepened his conviction that the prophetic message of Haggai extends beyond individual churches to the rebuilding of nations, eventually inspiring the vision developed in later volumes of the Rebuild My House series.

Alongside his theological work, Daniel has increasingly focused on the relationship between faith, technology, leadership, and Africa's future. His lifelong interest in history, early exposure to computer programming, military and public service experience, and commitment to biblical scholarship converged in the writing of AI Revolution. From this broader vision also emerged the African Institute for Sovereign Technologies and Innovation (ASTI), an independent, non-profit, multidisciplinary institute dedicated to advancing Artificial Intelligence, autonomous systems, and emerging technologies for Africa's future.

Today, Daniel's work extends beyond publishing to include institutional development, technology policy, leadership formation, and strategic initiatives such as the Africa AI Initiative, the proposed Africa AI Manifesto, and the Church AI Initiative, which seeks to help Christian leaders engage responsibly with Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies.

Throughout his life, Daniel has sought neither fame nor personal recognition. His desire has been to glorify God by equipping believers, strengthening leaders, building enduring institutions, and contributing to the intellectual, technological, and spiritual development of Africa. The Rebuild My House series, AI Revolution, and the vision of ASTI represent the fruit of decades of public service, prayer, study, missionary work, and a conviction that faith, knowledge, and responsible innovation must work together to prepare future generations.
